Today in music, firstly we played the Indonesian traditional instrument called the angklung. When one group composed a song with kodaly, the other group was to recognize the kodaly signs and play the melody with the angklung. Afterwards, we listened to our friends, (the piano and the flute groups), rehearsing their scales and composition for the practical exam. At last, we revised our QUIZ (written assessment) together in ways of Mr.Herry asking questions to us. Oh! at the very last, we had a photoshot since today was our last day of music in the whole semester.
Playing angklung was again a new experience. It was very fun playing and I liked it a lot.
Also, listening to our friends playing their songs was somewhat pleasing and easing. But most of all, I liked the photoshot. I can't believe that today was my last day in music class. I'm grieved......... Anyways thank you Mr.Herry and other music teachers for teaching us for a semester~!!!!:)

TERM 2 - Reflection no.17
December, 3, 2009
Today in our music session, we did the rehearsal for our practical exam.
Us, the string group and the guitar group did our own
scale and our own composition of 32 bars. I did the c major scale and the
g major scale. I was able to do the c major well, but not the g major.
By Mr.Harry's help I was able to finish the g major scale.
My problem today was that I was still not familiar with different scales.
So, I concluded that I will have to study and practice more harder for my
music pratical exam. I was relieved since it was a practice today.
And I found out that today's difficulties I've faced, will motivate me
to prepare for the exam. In the future, I'll have to study to play different kinds of
scales with my cello.

Today in music class, I again learned the kodaly,
but in more complexed way. We exercised by trying the song called
London Bridge, and we tried playing it in front of class.
Today, my strength was that I've improved more when
comparing my skill from the previous class.
I was somewhat happy that I improved. However,
when exercising a new song, again the difficulties were to be faced.
I was again confused, and was to slow to produce a fluent song by using
the kodaly. I find out that in next class, I'll have to prepare more
to be able to use this kodaly fluently in simple songs.

November, 19, 2009
Today in music class we did the real test.
The written test consisted the major scales, major 7 and the dominant 7.
Additionally, the inversions of the major 7 were also in the test.
After the test, we were sent to our instrument classes.
Today I had a strength.
It was that I prepared for the test with great effort.
Compared to last time's test, when I did not know much about the theory or the history,
this time, I researched for the history and the theory and studied all for the test.
I was happy for my preparation and consequently, the test wasn't hard.
From next on, I'll have to do the same to prepare the tests.

Today in music class, we had an assessment. It was a written assesment test of music history and theory. The theories covered the major scale and the major 7 and the dominant 7. However, since everyone objected of this test to be our real test, he let us do another test on thursday and had to choose the best one among the two. We've got some homework also to update our blog and to study for the test.
In my opinion I had only difficulties in this class instead of strengths. Though I went to the site theoria, I couldn't find essential information about the theory, nor Mr.Herry didn't require the study of history. Therefore I found the test very hard and couldn't find any strengths. From next on, I'll have the prepare better for tests, and when I don't know, I'll have to ask for help before the test day.

Today, we learned about related scales in music. We learned the major and minor's related scales and also Mr.Herry informed us the score of solo performance. He also imformed us that next week we'll have a quiz. Our practical exam will also be playing our composition but we will have to memorize it.
As I did always, understanding the rules and the theory of the related scales was challenging. However, I resolved this by asking to friends and to listen to Mr.Herry's question to others. Though I didn't ask him directly, listening to others answering to him helped me in understanding. From next on, I'll ask Mr.Herry directly when I don't understand so that I can more easily and clearly understand the parts I feel difficult.

Today in music session, we saw our video of last class' solo performance while we ( string students and the piano students) waited for the flute and guitar students to practice for their performance. After watching the video we've watched the guitar and flute students do their solo performances. Mr.Herry also gave us a homework to learn scale and chords by ourselves at home in the source he gave us, www.teoria.com
Today's my strength was shown when I listened to my friends playing. I was able to watch them and hear their sounds and ofcourse applause for them. However, I was quite embarrassed of the video when it was my turn in the screen. From next on, I'll try to make myself groomed before the assessment so that I don't get embarrassed of my video.

Today in music class, I've done an assessment of playing cello solo.
I played my own composition of 32 bars, and I enjoyed it.
Mr. Sadrakh assisted me with piano and Mr.Herry took me on the camera.
Besides, playing my composition with cello, I also listened to others playing their compositions with their own instruments.
The strengths during today's session was that
I had no problem in playing my composition with my instrument.
However, the difficulties I faced was that playing with vibrato was hard when I was a bit nervous with the whole class wathching.
From next on, I'll try to practice more for this kind of practical assesment so that I can be more confident in performances.

TERM 2 - Reflection no.9
November, 3, 2009
Today in music class, Mr.Herry checked our finale and midi file whether
we submitted the homeworks or not. Then, we submitted our homework about
the major scales and the major 7. Some of the friends wrote the scales and the
works in homework in the board. Then Mr.Herry checked those discussing together
with the class. At the end of class, He let us guess different songs from the piano.
My strength today was that I had no difficulties in understanding
the theories of the major scales and stuffs since I've understood it in the previous class.
However, I couldn't guess any of the songs. In future , I'll learn different songs
so that I don't face this kind of problem I encountered today.

Today in music class, we learned about Major scale and the Major 7.
Mr.Herry explained the theories on the board with different examples.
He also taught us about the different inventions the scales created.
He made sure we all understood by asking questions to the class.
Finally, we got a worksheet about the major scale, major 7s and the different inventions.
The obstacles were in understanding the major 7 and the inventions.
It was first very hard to understand them, but by different examples of scales
such as the C, G, A major scales I soon understood. I found the patterns and
at the end of the class, I was able to make the major 7 and the inventions.
From now on, I'll ask more questions when I find the topic to difficult.
And I'll make sure I understand the theories which I learn in each and every classes.

Today in music class, Mr.Herry gave us a sheet to fill in for a reflection of
assessment in singing gundul pacul. After filling it, he gave us a homework about midi files.
It was to download 5 midi files about the classical composers and make one of them
into a finale file.
I couldn't find any strengths in this session, but I had some problems.
It was that I couldn't download the midi files. I guess I had a problem with
my computer. However, it was solved by the help of Jennifer.
She helped me to download it, and my problem was solved.
From next time, I'll have to ask more about homeworks like that to Mr.Herry,
so that I don't have problems at home with managing computers.

Today in my music class, I had an assessment on singing.
It was an assessment about singing a western song.
This was also in pairs, so me and my partner kim chose the song
what a wonderful world.
My strength this time was that I wasn't nervous.
Me and my partner was a close friend and that made me not nervous.
However, the song's last part was not sure.
I haven't learn the song that much, so the melody at the end was still unfamiliar with me.
But, Mr.Herry helped us by repeating singing it before the assessment started.
Also my friends helped me in learning the whole melody.
From now on, I'll have to prepare learning the songs at home by playing the melody
with the piano so that I don't face problems in singing.

Today in music class, we sang Gundul Pacul together in pairs.
It was an assessment of singing Indonesian traditional song.
Mr.Herry recorded our scores. My partner was Jeffrey, and we sang
together in front of the class. We memorized the lyrics and Mr.Herry
even asked us to dance!!!!!
Afterwards, we sand WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD together with the
whole class.

As usual I was nervous of singing in front, though the 'pair' singing
helped me a bit. Also Mr.Herry's request to dance while singing was unable to make it

Today in music class, we learned the theory of G clef and F clef.
We had a worksheet and then sang the GUNDUL PACUL and the
LABAMBA together in class. Mr. Herry collected our
music of total 32 bars and the lyrics.
My strengths today was that the G CLEF and F CLELF were the things
I've already learned in Korean language. Also the singing of Gudul Pacul was
now seemingly easy, and I started to memorize the lyrics.
But, the difficulties I had was in singing LABAMBA. This was a spanish song,
so the language was hard, and the beat itself was also very fast, so at first it was
hard to follow. In future, I'll be happy to learn sing international songs so that
I get to know each country's characteristics in their own songs.

We sang out loud in front of the class, in instrument groups.
Then, we learned the patterns again in composing (AA'BB'...... and more)
but it was in 8bars.
The 8bars composition made our melody more like a real song,
because the extended length of the song made it seem like a pop music.
We also got homeworks to put lyrics on our compositions by next class.

Today in music session, Mr. Herry checked our composition
that we have learned yesterday. He adviced us to change some parts.
Then, we sang a song called 'GUNDUL PACUL'.
A traditional Indonesian song. It was not in the formal Indonesian language.
During this session, I encountered some difficulties.
It was the difficulties in reading the lyrics of GUNDUL PACUL. As I mentioned above, the language was not formal, so the pronounciations were too hard.
However, my sister in grade 6 had learned the song also,
and taught me the song. She and I sang the song together at home, and that helped me in learning it.
TERM 2 - Reflection no.1

Today in Music class, Mr. Herry taught us how to compose a melody
which had a pattern of AA'BB', ABA'B' and some more.
It was our first class, after the holidays, and the topic was also interesting.
I first had some difficulties in creating a melody, but when Mr.Herry composed his own
and played it with the piano, I found out that though the melody was simple,
it was nice.
Then so, my problem was solved.
I started composing mine very simple.
I couldn't finish it at class, so I finished it at home.
From next on, I'll not struggle thinking about complicated melodies when composing,
but I'll start from simple melodies.

Music Reflection #14
September, 10th, 2009
Today in music class, Mr. Herry explained to us about the final booklet from the student desk to be submitted by monday. Afterwards, we had singing the song INDONESIA PUSAKA individually in front, and I was extremely nervous. I don't know why, but I get nervous when I stand in front for singing and playing instruments though I don't when I speak out in front.
I tried to be attentive as I can in class which was my strong points today, but my nervousness was my best weakness of all. I really want somebody to tell me and help me to not be nervous in performances in music because though I don't want to be nervous I become in the real performance. From now on, I 'll try hard and work hard in being confident and not being nervous in front of others.

Today in music class, we were told to write our scores in our learning journal. The score was called out from Mr.Herry to the whole class, and I was lucky that i got both biographies 8/8. However, my score for performance was 9/10 but I manage to be happy with that. Then, who desired a make up test had them. Then we sang the song INDONESIA PUSAKA.
I was happy that i got good scores in the paper assignments. However, during singing the Indonesia pusaka, i had troubles because of the complexed words. They were hard to pronounce but I was able as I repeated them. From now on, I 'll try to use the youtube whenever I have this kind of problems so that I can learn the songs faster.

Mr.Herry then gave us some task. It was to find the song INDONESIA PUSAKA in youtube for the termtest. We had to learn the song individually and prepare. He explained also about the reflection booklet.

Today in music, we did the performance. We did it in the order of instrument classes but was unable to finish with the whole class because of time. Some were not prepared but we all did our best. It was also fun listening to others playing their instruments.
I was well prepared for the performance but at the moment, I also was very nervous. I wasn't able to do as well as I did in the practice, but I still think it was the practice which made me at least this much. From now on, I'll try if possible, to participate in more of the performances so that when I get use to it, I don't get nervous and make mistake.

From now on, I'll try if possible, to participate in more of the performances so that when I get use to it, I don't get nervous and make mistake.
Music Reflection #9

Today in music class, Mr.Herry told us tabout the blogging in internet. We were told t o write a reflection in the blog and to dend the URL to his mail. We also had a rehersal in music class for short time for the performance next class.
I had no difficulties in the rehersal but the blogging seemed complicated. However, I did it easily. From now on, if I have any problems such as the blogging, I will approach to the teachers and will try to solve them by asking.

Music Reflection #8

Today we sang the song HARI MERDEKA and also got another song but didn't learn yet. Later on, we learned how to make a simple composition with the C, G, F codes. It was fun making one bar by one bar from the whole class, and the sony finally came out guite good when Mr.Herry played it.
Though the song was an Indonesian song, it was now familiar to me and I guess that was what I have improved. However, I had some problems in understanding the codes and to use them correrctly. But, when we made a composition together in class, I was able to understand them. From next time, Ill ask for some help for things I don't understand because I found it effective when we did the work in a whole class.

Today in music, we submitted our homework about the biography and discussed about the new presentation we were given. It was a group presentation we had to do next week. Later on, we learned the majors and how to create simple melody with it.
I encountered some difficulties during learning the majors because it seemed to be somthing new. However, I enjoyed to create melodies. From next on, I'll try to understand the theoris of music better so that it is easy for me to develop into other stuffs as a simple melody.

Music Reflection #6

Today in music, we learned the song HARI MERDEKA the Indonesian Independence song. We wrote the lyrics down in our notebook and then learned how to sing it. The melody was somewhat familiar though it was my first time learning it. We also learned the C MAJOR SCALE and MINOR scale as well as the SHARP, FLAT, and the NATURAL.
The song was easy though was my first time learning. But I once again had problems with the names of the music symbols. The scale was somewhat new to me but I didn't have that much hard time in it. From now, I'll really have to work in other country's music and theier ways of saying them. Though music is called the INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE, still I have hard times than learning in my own laguage. I believe these are all expreriences.

Today in music class, we were to submit our homework about pop music. It was a quite big homework to make a booklet about it. We chose our own artists and researched about them and made a booklet. Mr.Herry picked some of us and they presented their work in front and again Mr.Herry asked some quesions. And for the next hw, we were assigned to choose a classical composer for this time and make the same thing, a booklet about it.
During my homework I had some difficulties in summarizing the pop artist's biography but I solved it by finding some words in dictionary and so on. It was asked to be done in my own words so it took me long time. However, from next time, I shall prepare it from then, so that I don't have to do the massive work in a day.

Music Reflection #4

Today in class we studied the trebble and the bass clef. It was quite new for me since I've learned in korean and was my first time learning it in English. After the lecture Mr.Harry showed us a power point presentation about the music clubs and ACP s. We were asked to join if interested and also he explained the auditions when its held and so on.
I knew the clefs from then but had hard times because I wasn't familiar with the words in english. Now on I'll have to try and understand the theories in english also.

In music Theory, in instrument groups we discussed our homework about the popular music. Then, we went out in front and presented the topic. To make it sure, Mr.Harry also made a short quiz for us whether we were listening to other groups or not. Afterwards we againg sang the heal the world. I was the one together with Ais to present it out in the front which was actually one of my strengths. However, I had some difficulties in listening the other groups carefully and in understanding it all since I wasn't the one reading. From now on I'll try to be more attentive.

Today in music class, we were first of all led to sit in our seats according to the instrument classes. Since I'm in the string group I and my groupmates sat in the front left side. Then we once again learned how to sing the song HEAL THE WORLD and tried singing in front with groups. I was confident when I sang in our own seats together standing up with the whole class. But again my weakness was that, when I was in front of my class, though I was with my groupmates, was nervous. Next class, if we're ask to go front and sing one by one, I'll have to work hard in not being nervous.

Music Reflection #1

Today in music theory, Our class were to divide into four different instrument classes since it was our first music class. It did take a quite long time but finally divided into groups with some auditions and so on. We also were instructed to write the 'RULES AND REGULATION' and finally learned singing the song of Michael Jackson HEAL THE WORLD.
I found out, though I had no hard time in other parts in music class, I had a bit of difficulties while singing heal the world because, for me, I only know limited genres of english pop songs which means to say, others knew the song while I didn't. From now on I'll try to search for mor english songs which may help me in music class.
